Listed below is a series of common questions and issues. If your problem or query is not addressed here please contact your IT helpdesk.
What is the Authorware Web Player?
This is a browser plug-in that allows content written with Macromedia Authorware to be played through a web browser. There are different versions of the Authorware Web Player for both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla based browsers (such as Firefox). You will automatically receive the correct version for your browser.
I don’t have Admin access rights on my computer – can I still install the Authorware Web Player?
Unfortunately no – Admin access is necessary. Contact your IT helpdesk for support with this. Once the Authorware Web Player has been installed, Admin access is not required to access the actual content.
Is there an alternative to installing the Authorware Web Player?
Installing the Web Player is the only way you will be able to access the course through your browser.
What is the Authorware Web Player Security Dialog Box?
The first time you run a course you will be asked if you want to allow the program access to your local hard drive (to download support files). The course cannot run unless you agree to this.
There is a delay between clicking on the course link and it running.
The speed the course runs at depends upon the speed of your connection. There are also several support files that have to be downloaded before the course can run. These files will generally only need to be downloaded once, after which they are accessed from your PC's hard drive thus speeding up access time.
If you are have just clicked on 'Yes' to install the Authorware Web Player then there will be a delay while it downloads and installs. Again this delay will depend on the speed of your connection. This only applies if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The program seizes on startup or unspecified errors occur.
Possible Cause: System requirements are not met. Ensure you are using a PC (not 'Macintosh') computer equipped with a high speed internet connection and the Internet Explorer V5.0 or higher web browser. Netscape, Firefox and other browsers are not currently supported.
I have installed the Authorware Web Player but I haven't been able to run the course.
Try clearing your browser's cache and then try again. If this doesn't work then it may indicate that the Authorware Web Player hasn't installed properly, and could be an access rights issue. In this case please contact your IT helpdesk.
How do I clear my browser's cache?
For Microsoft Internet Explorer: select the "Internet Options..." item from the "Tools" menu. In the "Temporary Internet Files" section click on the "Delete Files" button.
For Firefox: select the "Options..." item from the "Tools" menu. Choose the "Privacy" category and then select "Cache". Click on the "Clear Disk Now" button.
(these instructions relate to Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. Other versions may differ.)
How do I remove the Authorware Web Player from my computer?
For Microsoft Internet Explorer: select the “Internet Options…” item from the “Tools” menu. In the “Temporary Internet Files” section click on the “Settings” button. On the next window click the “View Objects” button and you will be presented with a list of installed plug-ins such as Java and Flash.
